Afghanistan is a impoverished country. Two Thirds of the afghan population lives on two US dollars a day. Only 11 out of 29 million of the Afghanistan population is unemployed. They have a 40% unemployment rate. Most of this economic suffering was caused by the Soviet invasion. What also helped this was a four year drought. This destroyed there agriculture system, which is Afghanistan's main legitimate source of income. There biggest source of income is unofficial drug sale. Afghanistan porduces 90% of the UK's heroine. The US helped bolster Afghan economy after they invaded. They helped the transfer from the old Afghanis to the new Afghanis. This greatly helped there economy.

Afghanistan has many untapped resources and companies are starting to notice the potential of that region. There government gets most of the revenue from import and export taxes. Since the drought has ended Afghanistan has had enough food for itself and export.
