Art of Afghanistan

This figure of Maitreya and worshippers from Paitava, stands 25 cm tall. This piece is from the 3rd Century and represents an orientalized Roman sculpture.

Many museums in Afghanistan were destroyed by the Taliban after an edict placed by Mullah Omar in February of 2001. And much has been lost to looters and thieves. Though much is gone, there are still pictures reminiscent of these great, ancient works of art.
