Now, when you travel to any country there are different cultures and ideals that you have to be aware of.

Greetings
When meeting a male resident of Afghanistan, the usual 'hello' is a handshake. Occasionally you will be greeted with a fist on the chest and a slight nod. It is important to note that the roles of men and women in Afghanistan are very traditional. That is to say that Women generally are responsible for household duties and men are the providers for the family. (Although in major cities working women do exist.) Men and Women will never shake hands no less speak to each other straightforwardly.

Ladies...
Because you are unfamiliar with the customs of the Middle East you will need to learn their ways and live them by the word. One important thing to remember is that if a man talks to you in public he is dishonoring you, and he should be completely ignored. You must avoid looking men in the eyes and keep your eyes on the street to maintain your 'namoos' in Afghani culture. And dress conservatively, your form should not be visible.
And Guys, it's also inappropriate to initiate conversation with women or ask family members about female relatives. If you do find yourself in a room with another women, keep the door open and keep space between the two of you. As the saying goes "You, Me and the Devil makes Three".

Being A Guest
When you visit a home, you will be treated with the utmost amounts of kindness and respect. They will treat you like a King! Honor in Afghanistan is one of the most important ideals and can be gained by being respectful of guests and treating them well. When the time comes around to feast, wait to be shown where too sit, try to sit cross-legged if you can. Just don't show your soles to anyone around you. (So don't outstretch legs even under the table.) Eat with your right hand and keep your left idle. Even pass things with your right. Your left hand should be completely immobile during the dinner.
